The Dogs

My goal is to make life with a dog as easy and enjoyable as possible. At home, our dogs are fully integrated into everyday family life and are always ready to join in on any activity. While we do not expect them to become top agility champions, they are generally willing and enthusiastic participants in a wide variety of hobbies and activities, as long as expectations remain realistic and the dog's well-being comes first.

In daily life, however, our dogs are remarkably easy-going. They are content to lounge on the sofa, rarely stress over unnecessary things, and know how to relax when there is nothing happening. All of our dogs are people-oriented and friendly, and they generally accept unfamiliar dogs without issue. That said, they are not typical dog-park dogs and usually prefer the company of their own pack.

Akitas are independent thinkers and are not always the easiest breed to read or train. In our household, the pack dynamic functions harmoniously, with each dog having found its place within the group. However, this is not something that can be taken for granted with the breed, and understanding canine behavior and social dynamics remains an important part of responsible Akita ownership.
